This reminds me that moving forward doesn’t mean pretending my past never happened. There are choices I’ve made, people I’ve hurt, and situations I wish I could go back and handle differently. I can acknowledge those things and take responsibility for them without letting guilt become the thing that defines me.
For a long time, it can be easy to get stuck replaying old mistakes and thinking about what should have been different. But there comes a point where constantly looking backward starts taking energy away from the life I’m trying to build now. I can’t change what already happened, but I can learn from it, make things right where I’m able to, and make better choices going forward.
To me, recovery is giving myself the chance to become someone different through my actions, not just my intentions. I want to focus more on where I’m headed, the goals I still have, and the kind of person I want to be. My past will always be part of my story, but it doesn’t have to be the ending.
